USE OF STATICS
FOR WEATHER FORECASTING
AUCKLAND, May 29
The possibility of utilising statics for world-wide weather forecasting has been illustrated by experiments at Auckland University College in the iast year by Dr.K. Kreielsheimer, who ieft Germany after the introduction of the Hitler regime. He will leave on Friday by the Monowai to take up a lucrative appointment as research physicist for Neon Signs (Australia), Ltd., at Sydney. Since his arrival in Auckland Dr. Kreielsheimer has constructed sending and receiving sets to study radio wave tracks above the earth in order to find the cause of fading. His machine registers signals on photographic paper. Discussing radio equipment, h© said statics would have to be eliminated, especially in New Zealand, where they were very bad. He predicted fewer but more powerful transmitting, stations, as illustrated by the Berlin and Moscow 500-kilowatt stations. H e praised lYA’s modern technical equipment.
