(Received this day at 12- noon) INDIANAPOLIS, May 30. Kelly Petillo, a Los Angeles driver, won the Memorial Day five hundred mile automobile race in 4hrs 36mih 47 sees, with an average speed of 102.24 miles an hour. Petillo broke the record at 450 miles in 4hrs 7min losec, averaging 109.201 miles an hour, but rain forced him to slow down from then on. Thirty-three drivers started. Clay Weatherly, of Cinoinatti, was killed, and liis mechanic sustained a broken back early when their car crashed into a retaining wall. There were 155,000 spectators.
