A COSTLY PROCEDURE.
(Per fress Association.— Copyright.)
WELLINGTON, May 30,
The Chairman of the Executive Committee of tile Wellington Automobile Association, Mr A. E. Batt, said in an interview: “It is m v personal opinion that the annual registrations and issuance of new number plates is a veiy costly procedure, as well as occupying an enormous amount of valuable tune of 200,000 vehicle owners. It appeal - .-, to me that the time has arrived when the Government should seriously consider the adoption of the English procedure of issuing a permanent number plate, and indicating that the annual license has been paid by a coloured sticker attached to the windscreen, the colour being changed each year, to obtain exactly the same results as wc in New Zealand obtain by a more costly method of having new number plates of varying colour each year. I am sure it would he of interest for the public to know that vehicle owners i'll New Zealand pay £20,000 per annum for new number plates, on which the Post and Telegraph Department will make a profit of £7OOO. All- Matt also protested against the refusal of the Post and Telegraph Department to supply registration and third party risk forms for use in the Association's depots.
