In the Lords, Lord Alarlev raised the question of the Saar refugees. He said that seventy thousand would be forced to take refuge in ‘other countries unless the problem was quickly dealt with and would be an obstacle to Germany’s return to tbe League. Lord Strathoona, replying, said it would be improper for Britain as a single member of the League Council to express an opinion on the subject at this stage, when the Council, as a whole bad appointed’ a special committee to obtain information and make recommendations.
