AGAINST LAW AAIENDAIENTS

WELLINGTON, December 7

A protest mqde recently in tjhe Legislative Council against extraneous legislation being included in Finance Brills has been supported by % letter (he had written to the Finance Minister, stated the Secretary of the Associated Chambers of Gomerce, reporting to the executive yesterday. The letter in reply from the Minister was read, in which he said so far as practicable, amendment® of acts were embodied in separate amendments of acts, and it was only in exceptional circumstances that the Finance Bill was used for thepurpo.se. The attention of the meeting was then drawn to the fact that the Finance Act, No. 3 last session contained provisions affecting a number of statutes. The chniririan remarked that the Act was an extraordinary conglomeration. He said finance hill® had overridden many principles of common law ,and had set at naught many provisions of the general statute law.

It was decided to make a renewed protest to the minister.
