BOROUGH CONTROL

HOKITIKA COUNCIL MEETING. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening, there being present the Mayor ('Mr G. A. Perry), a ncl Os. J. King, A. Cutbance, T, W. Duff, and A. R. Elcock. Apologies were received from Crs. D. P. Stuart, E. Teichelmann, A. Thompson and C. Heinz. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. The Unemployment Commissioner intimated a traffic census will be taken J during the last week of this month and in January next, and asking the •Council to co-operate ( by meeting any request from the 'Main Highways Board for available Scheme 5 men to take the taJlies.—Referred to Town Clerk. The clerk 'of the Otorohanga County Counci.l intimated he was representing , loon] authorities on the board of the Public Mutual Insurance Company, and that he would be glad to place his services at the disposal of local authorities in regard to insurances.— Received.

The Mayor of Westport forwarded a copy of resolution passed by the Westport Council, protesting against the extension of the life of Parliament, and that if Council approves of the resolution, to advise the Prime Minister.—Received.
