CAB HITS POLE

DISTRICT IN DARKNESS AUCKLAND, July 8. A small motor-car collided , with an electric-power pole on the Great North Road, about Lj- miles from Henderson, last evening; and as a result the district was plunged in darkness for the greater part of the night. , The motor-car was driven by a young man. ..lie rorce of. the impact broke two high-tension wires, and all electric lights between the Henderson Bridge and Waikumete Cemetery were extinguished. The fault in the wires was marked by a continual display of vivid blue flashes, accompanied .by explosions. “The experience was almost frightening,” said a resident. “The electric flashes could ’bo seen for a long distance and each one was accompanied by a defoliation like the exploding of a bomb.” The fault was repaired by members of the Waitemata Power Board staff and the power, which was dislocated at 6.20, wss restored at 11 o’clock.
