Communists barricaded the approaches to a block which the police' are surrounding. The defeucjters lit huge bonfires behind the barricades. The forms of men, naked to the waist, and women, with unkempt haif, wer©; to. be seen feeding the Amines, with furniture, id'oors and, window fmines At 3.30, the police, aided by firemen, took possession of the barricaded area, the Cpipmiinists retreating inside the houses. The police waited .till ’ dawn and then, entered the block. Some dwellers opened their doors, but when othors the police battered down the doors and found a number of men. The leading twenty were arrested.
