ONEHUNGA •CHURCH ROBBED. (Per Press Association, Copyright). AUCKLAND, March 15. On Wednesday night, the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption, at Onehunga was broken into, and two sacred vessels, valued lat £SO were stolen. It was found that the back door of the church had been forced open, and that the lock of an inner door leading to the Sacristy - had been forced. There were five chalices in the room, three being of silver, and two gilded. The two latter chalices are missing, the thief, obviously, having mistaken them for solid gold. £IOO FINE FOR BOOKMAKING. HAWERA, March 14. Pleading guilty to carrying on the •business of -a bookmaker, William Elder, tea rooms proprietor, was fined £IOO by the Magistrate, Mr Salmon, to-day, in default three months’ imprisonment.
