HIGH INSURANCES
... FILM MACNATE^SvPOLICIES JOHN BARRYMORE’S £400,000 American insurance statistics reveal the fact that a surprisingly large proportion of the men with million-dollar life policies are actors: and film executives. William Fox hears the theatrical list with insurances totalling about £1,300,000. . Only two men in America (or possibly in the world) carry heavier insurance—Pierre S. du Pont (1.400.000), arid : Martin C. Johnson 1 (£1,309,000), both big industrialists. -John Barrymore, insured for £400,000, beds the list of the twelve players with million-dollar policies. He is followed bv Norma Tahriadge and Otis Skinner (£250,000 each), and A 1 Jolson, Harold Lloyd, John McCormack, Mary Pickford, Harry Richman, will Rogers? Gloria Swanson, and Constance Tahriadge, each witli £200,000. The dependents of some of the film executives are even more heavily provided for. Joseph M. Schenck (president of United Artists) is insured for over £1,000,000, followed by Adolph Zukor and Jesse Lasky, with £1,000,000 each. Herbert J. Yates—so unspectacular a figure that his name does not ap-, pear in most reference ' books—has policies totalling £600,000. Others include Harry Warner (£500,000), Major Albert Warner (£300;000), and Jack Warner (£200,000). • ’ Two directors figure in the million dollar class—Cecil B. De Mille ["350,000) arid Eric von Stroheim (£200,000).
London. 'tobacconists ~ say the rush and hurry of modern' life y are responsible For the largely, increased demand for pipe-tobacco in,'England. Of course it h so! Don’t we see .the same thing happening in New /Zealand? .Fact is the rate at which we dive- iri these hectic 'iiiries render's tobacco simply invaluable, especially, in the ease ( of 'braiari-wo'rkers.. O.To call it- just a “luxury” is ridiculous. .To nirie mfW out of ten it is a prime necessity. Happily for Maorilandei’s the Dominion is now becoming iariidus for its whgc.co, and the four brands; Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Riverhead : Gold, Cavendish, and Cut Plug - No. JO (Bullshead) are not'only Teriowried for flavour and aroma, but not even their immoderate use can effect the health of the smoker, because they are toasted in the‘process of manufacture afnd thus rendered quite harmless. .It -is worthy of special note, moreover, that these are. the only toasted tobaccos. None '" others are produced. But be cautious when buying. There are imitations (as usual I) on the market! '
