PRIVATE FORCE FORMED. FIVE HUNDRED , PICKED MEN. LONDON, February 5.' Five hundred picked men,. fully orj ganised and trained, have been banded 1 together into V private air force within six months by an ex-R.A.F. officer. The leader is Mr Raymond Gordon, known .as. the Group Captain ,and Pre-i i sident of the force—-the British Flying j 'Corps—whoso headquarters ar,e in. i Pevkham Road, London, S.E. Six months ago he announced the formation of the group.. He then bad only a few - dozen members, but to day he controls a' uniformed body of 500. f { My , ma in object in- forming the corps is to enable the many British ,ah\, enthusiasts of moderate means to become proficient pilots at a low cost, h e - told a “Sunday Chronicle’’ correspondent. ] “Although the plan is of a non- j aggressive nature, such a body of train- j ed airmen will be invaluable in the event of a national emergency. All our men are prepared, to serve thencountry if called upon.” Engineers, salesmen, motor drivers, architects —men of all types are to be | found in the ranks. _ . | At week-ends practical flying in-, ,struction 'is given at the corps aerodrome.
