Foreign vessels trading in the upper Yangtsze faced greater perils than in the famous gorges as the result of the latest Communist advances to Specimen, which threatens to .suspend river traffic. Several Red armies from the north are converging .on Kaihsien above Wanhsien.
Commanders at Szechuen are urgently calling .for more troops to stem the Communists’ tide, failing which they fear there is little hope of saving the river.
