The Balovale’ tribe -have long been vass-als of the Marozi. Although matriarchal succession is a familiar feature of native customs in South Central Africa, the people of the Bnlovrffe tribe aro specifically noted for the complete application of the principle, their own chiefs all being women. The mdn are noted for their industry laud rre esteemed as labourer,s. They have a curious habit of filling the front teeth to points. One of their women Irulers, whom the Governor visited, is Murena Mbkwa’e, -mow. nearly 100 years old, whose, reign his lasted 60 years.
