ULM SETS OFF

Ulm arrived at 3.10 in the afternoon, local time, and resumed his flight at eight at night.

SMITHY ARRIVES AT BRISBANE

SYDNEY, October 14.

Smithy reached Brisbane from Camooweal at 5 p.m.~ He was very exhausted, and was unable to broadcast from 4-Q.G as arranged at 8.30 p.m. He received a tremendous ovation. The Premier and ’Lord Mayor greeted him as Uio world's greatest aviator.

RONGOTAI ’DROME PROPOSALS

SUITABILITY OF THE GROUND

i WELLINGTON, October 13Proposals concerning the Rongotai aerodrome resulted in a vigorous argument at the City Council meeting, as to (whether the aerodrome’s continued existence would be justified. A committee brought down a report recommending certain work, and proposing a. new agreement with the Aero Club for the club’s use of the aerodrome, for a further period of six years.

Visiting aeroplanes sometimes landed" iu a field of sand and slush.

o The Mayor : There has been no mud : and slush. I am not ignorant of the conditions there.

Cr. Butler replied that Kmgsford Smith said he would never use the ’drome again, and citizens did nmwant to make any further grant to the club.

The Mayor said he had reports from pilots and also the Director of Air Services, which were unanimous that Bongotai was quite as suitable for the purposes, as any other area within a reasonable distance.
