( A MENTAL PATIENT

(Pei (Press Association— Copyright ) \hRISTCHURCH, May -25, A sensational story was circurateo yesterday that recent fires in Mar,sMand were caused by a women masquerading as a man and she had confessed. The police now state that woman in question was admitted to the Mental Hospital. Her confession proved untrue.

George Graingcs, 27, Patrick Gannon, 25, Janies Tannefi 25,' all seamen, were charged to-day with breaking and ent e r. i : .g the. Supply febores" warehouse in Colombo' Street and committing theft. They were-..remanded till May. 20. The police .stated that the men were discovered in " the shop yesterday evening.

The. appointment of Dr. James W. Mcllwraith, senior inspector of schools at Auckland., as- chief inspector of primary schools for New Zealand, is officially announced to-day.

DAIRY FACTORY BURNED. HAM-ERA, May 2d,

Fire, which was discovered a 10.30 last evening, gutted the Mere Mere Dairy Company’s factory at Ohangai. The loss includes HOP crates of cheese stored in the curing room. The insurance and details are unavailable. ,
