An Empire Day gathering at Sydney to-day pledged 'its . loyalty and determniation .to work for closer unity of the component parts of the Empire anci ’to combat such influences as tenuea 'towards disintegration. There were many notable .adresses including the Governor-General's. The Southern Seas broadcast of Empire sentiment to-night was immensely successful in Australia. '■ Eloquent speeches by Lord Bledisloe at Rotorua, and Mr Flower at Christchurch were heard here most clearly, and not a word was missed. A Maori haka from the Wellington studio was an unique feature which delighted Australian listeners. Earl Jellicoe’s voice was heard with the same clarity as the New Zealanders’. The Duke of Connaught’s message of good cheer, and observations on the marvels of radio telephony made u deep impression, fts did the rousing speech by Sir Henry Gray at MontreaJ, on the subject of united Empire, The programme went off without. «. hitch, marking a new era in Empire broadcasting,
