CHRISTCHURCH, May 23.
A vigorous denunciation ot the Cluistchurch Citizens’ Association, and a dial lenge to the chairman of the Association, who issued his allegations in a form so that they could bo tested in the Supreme Court 011 a writ of libel, were made by the Deputy-Mayor, the Rev. J. K. Archer at the City Council meeting last evening during a lively discussion.
In indignant terms Mr Arch or, who is one ol the tour Labour candidates into whose electoral qualifications an inejuiry is sought, (charged the Citizens’ Association with hypocrisy and extreme political partisanship. He declared that the letter which it addressed to the Council was an expression oi hatred against the Labour Party, and against all those who support, the our party
At the suggestion of the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan), tlic letter, and matters relating to it were referred by the laws and finance committee for submission to the City solicitor.
