EXPLORING PARTY

EXPEDITION* TO HIMALAYAS,

After * a trek of ten days to the sacred shrine at Cangotri, near the source oflthe Ganges, the party intends to dispense with native earners and travel light into high altitudes inhabited 1 by tribes who regard it as an offence to whistle, to uncover the head in conversation, or to watclr the preparation of a meal.

, The party consists of Mir Marco Pallis, soil of a retired cotton merchant,, of Liverpool; My C, F. Kirkus, a pioneer of new routes in the hilly of Wales’; Mi; F. E. Hicks, a Yofksliir{j r ‘ schoolmaster, son of the vicar of Mr R.. 0. Nicholson. l of Lee-on-tlie-Solent, who has been studying metalwork and drawing at a Nesiort studio; and Dr. Charles WarYen, of Berkshire, who will act as medical advisor. All have made mountaineering .trips together in Great Britain and in the Alps. The object of tlie expedition is to explore the basin of the great Ganotri Glacier, and to ascend peaks hitherto unsealed. Each has chosen a special elimbmnr suit of Manchester-made Grenfell cloth in blue,, red, green or grey, to suit his personal taste, and stores, which a v, 9 being taken from Liverpool, include delicacies to stimulate the appetite in high altitudes, together with pom mi can and chocolate. Tt is boned to find wild rhubarb and onions along the route.
