(Received this day at 9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May 12,
Gaston B. Means testified to-day that f Colonel Charles Lindbergh’s baby was stolen by New Jersey liquor runners. He said that Max Hassel and Max Greenburg were responsible for the kidnapping. He did not know them, but they had sold beer to servants at the Lindbergh house. Irving Fenton, described previously by him as one of those responsible for the kidnapping, had told him that Lindbergh, as a practical joke, on occasions had placed the baby in the closet, and told the servants that the baby had been stolen. This joke, said Means, gave the kidnappers the idea, and one of the members of their ring went to the Lindbergh house with beer, picked up the baby from the crib, and went away.
