The ladies of the Westland Racing Club Ball Committee are requested to meet at the Soldiers’ Hall next Thursday afternoon ait 2.30 for the purpose of discussing the forthcoming dance ■arrangements.

Arrangements in connection with the closing date of the Hokitika Plunket Society's baby contest, and the form the final demonstration will take, will be made at a meeting of all committees organising the funds of the various candidates to he held at the Town Hall at 3 o’clock on Monday afternoon. This will he preceded by the annual meeting of the Society at 2.30 o’clock. It is hoped that both these meetings will he fully attended.

Commencing to-day the charge for night letter telegrams between New Zealand and Australia will be at the rate 0 f three shillings and ninepence for a minimum of twenty-five words and twopence for each additional word. The charge between New Zealand and Suva will he six shillings and threepence for a minimum of twenty-five words, and threepence for each additional word.

At a meeting of the Municipal Band held this week it was decided to run a series of dances during the coming months. Dancing to brass band music is a very popular pastime in England, and it was thought that the innovation would prove equally so locally. Arrangements are in hand to commence on Friday April 24th.
