CASES HEARD BY MR MELDRUM In the Hokitika Magistrate's Court this morning the following cases were dealt with by Mr W. Meld rum, S.M. Judgment by Default. Judgment for plaintiff by default, was given in, the following cases: — Westland Hospital Beard v. D. Cadigah £3 Is, a nd costs £1 Os. 6d; •H. M. Coulson v.. Thomas Howard, junr. £1 10s, and costs 10s; G eorge Searle v. Eric Hackel £1 9s l'ld, and costs 10s. Judgment Summons. In a. judgment summons, Unity Press, Ltd., sought to recover the,', sum of £27 14s from T. Robinson. . Defendant was ordered to pay the amount together with costs, in default two months’ imprisonment. On Licensed Premises. A charge of being found on the premises of the Dunedin Hotel after hours was adjourned from last court day to enable the police to disprove the defence, that defendant had been a boarder at the hotel/ on the night in question. Constable Randall said that he had made inquiries a t the hotel,., and was informed that defendant was not) a boarder. Defendant declined to call any wit- V ness, and was convicted and ordered t 0 pay costs. 1 ' Breaqh ©f Traffic Laws. G. Harcqurt was charged with using an unregistered, and unlicensed motor vehicle, and with having wrong number plates attached. ‘ . .: ... John Clark, Highways Board traffic inspector outlined the charges. Defendant was fined £1 costs for using an unregistered vehicle and , fined £1 and costs on the charge of using wrong number plates. On the charge of using- an unlicensed vehicle. he was convicted .and discharged'. M. Cameron was charged on, two counts with overloading a vehicle. Brown was fined ,5s and costs. , Maintenance A charge of disobedience of his maintenance , order - was preferred against Norman ICarnbach (Mr Elcock). The case was adjourned.
