CONTRACT BREACH
MARLENE DIETRICH' IN COURT.
A 200,000 DOLLAR CLAIM.
LOS ANGELES, January 2
A suit for nearly two hundred thousand dollars damages was filed in the Federal Court, here, to-day, against Marlene Dietrich, by Paramount Studios, charging a breach of contract.
i'no action charges that she refused to work under the terms of a foui thousand dollars weekly contract, and asks that she he enjoined from working for another producer.
ivina nuel Cohen, Vice President in charge of the production, explaining the action, said that since the completion of her last picture, the actress was paid four thousand dollars weekly on the contract, expiring February 19. Plans were made for another picture. With production arrangements -omplete, he said. Dietrich arbitrarily refuses to go ahead, and now refuses to Dace the cameras, and requests a cancellation of her contract for the few remaining weeks. The costs of preparation of any picture are one of the greatest items and the cancellation of the (contract now would mean that Paramount would not get the Dietrich picture it has already paid her for. Ey reason oi her refusal to eompCy, it has been burdened by the accumulated loss of over two hundred thousand dollars.
