New Year Sports.—Excellent conditions prevailed for the New Year sports yesterday, when 1500 people were present. The results of the sports were as follow :—looyds—E. Irving, l; L. Hills, 2. Boys’ cycle race—J. Calir.ri. J. Kortegast. 880yds—R. Stewart 1, P, Douglas 2, R. Mclntyre 3. Two miles cycle—G. Meharrv 1, Renton 2. Walker 3. Boys foot race—E. Lloyd I, F. Ealfe 2. Highland fling—-0. McLean I, G. Dixon 2. Bagpipes—G. Dixon 1. Prsonal—Messrs J. Lloyd and M Ceil!son' have been appointed to the Hokitika School Committee to fill the vacancies caused by the death of Mr F. Rickard, and the resignation of Mr J. F. White.—Mr J. Grant, late station master at. Ngahtre, has been appointed master at Hokitika, arriving here yesterday.—Mr Clare, the newly appointed chief clerk in the local post office arrived in Hokitika yesterday, Bricks.—The Greymouth Brick Company advertise that they will supply bricks in any quantity from one to ten thousand, at £3 per thousand, free at the Hokitika station. ..Industry.—lt is intended to organise thoroughly the Labour Party on the West Coast during the next few weeks, and it is hop'ed to. induce the employees .in every trade to form unions. School Committee. —At the meeting of the Hokitika School Committee last evening the Board confirmed the appointment of Miss Maisie Henderson as extra pupil teacher for the com.ng year. Mr E. H. Robinson was appointed treasurer. Arrangements for tlie annual school excursion were lef in the hands ,pf Mssrs Clarke, Lloyd ai.d Shannon.
