INCREASE OF TOURISTS IN N.Z

CHRISTCHURCH, January 5

Oversea travellers are visiting New Zealand this, year in greater number-; than during tbs holiday period of last year, according to an authoritative statement. Alost of them, if they have the time at their disposal, are including the South Island in their tours. All the scenic and pleasure resorts of the south, and particularly the Alilford Track, are being patronised. Tlie visitors are mainly Australians, though there is a. fair sprinkling of Americans. Many inquiries have been made in Christchurch concerning the innovation of a sea cruise from Wellington to Alilford Sound by the Wanganella, which, will arrive at Wellington on January 16, on. her maiden voyage. The .vessel will spend one day at Milford Sound, and provision has been made for .travellers to walk the Alilford Track and join the vessel, or leave the vessel, and return overland. . Cruises of this sort became popular in America some years ago, and the fashion spread to England, whence popular trips, were arranged to the Mediterranean and Baltic.
