Speight: “The fish is called Pla"iogeneion rubi giuosus, and it is as rare as its name is long. All recorded specimens except this one have been found cast up on the shore in winter. so it comes in like- the frost- fish, and why it does this * s not- known. Tt is a deep-sea fish and was probably caught near Kaikoura in summer time because the deep water comes in very close to the coast in that part of the country. Little further is known about the fish and its habits, but the specimen you have sent is interesting since it was caught in summer.”

The present term of office for Mayors !'nd councillors is two years, but the Municipal Corporations Bill, now before Parliament, provides that, while the coming election next May shall he for a period of two years, succeeding elections, commencing from May, 1935, shall ho for periods of three years. Simultaneously with the borough elections are held elections of borough ve’-resent "tives on harbour boards and on hospital boards. The county representatives on these bodies were elected on Mav 11 of last year, at the same time as the county council elections, which are triennial and do not fall again until May, 193-o.
