“BOBBY” CALF VEAL
SUGGESTIONS OF CRUELTY. (Per Press Association— Copyright.) NEW PLYMOUTH, October 14. Suggestions of there being cruelty during transport in the “bobby” calf industry, and that Hie British consumers should not buy this meat, were contained in a letter sent to an English paper for publication by the Taranaki branch of the. S.P.C.A. This fact has been responsible for a spirited protest by the North Taranaki Farmers’ Union, which, to-dav, had representatives of the S.P.C.A. at their mpeGnnr. a denial was given, to the statement that there was any cruelty by the farmers. It was said that the letter, if published, will have a disastrous affect on the “bobby” calf industry. The S.P.C.A. president said that the letter had already been posted, and the only thing that he could suggest was that the Union should also send a letter giving its viewpoint. The representatives of the two bodies agreed to confer.
