TAILORESSES' PAY
EMPLOYERS GRANT INCREASE.
WELLINGTON, Aug. 26. v The concession of increases in the rates of pay was a. feature of the Conciliation Council tp-day, in connection with the Wellington tailoresses’ dispute. On behalf of the employers, it was stated that ther were prepared to pay journey women £2 7s. 6d a week less 10 per cent, which , would give them £2 2s 9d a week or 4s 6d a week ifiore than the present award rate. The workers.-.asked that coat makers should receive sOmething/e£tra. .. . . After retirement,; tb© ;ethployers .announced' that they- would pay boat, hands £2 .11s Gd, and. ordinary hands £2 Bs, less 10 per cent in both instances.. The employers, stated that; they were granting a very considefahle/ihci^ease. The workers accepted the rates offered. ■ > '« ■" . . ; -The -employers also agreed to a 44liours week, and the workers agreed to accept the team system. The Council then went into committee to, consider piecework rates. No agreement was reached yesterday on the question of wages by the .Conciliation Council, which considered the tailors’ dispute, and a motion to refer the dispute to the' Arbitration Court was lost, The Council adjourned until September 6th. y
