THE WESTLAND DISTRICT

The Westland Land Board met yesterday afternoon when there were pre--5 sent the Commissioner of Crown j Lands (Mr T. Cagney) chairman, ! Messrs B. Ward, Wm. Clayton, J. ■ Ryall and W. Searle. I Applications were dealt with as follow : | Block V, Haupiri S.D., 381 a3r Op, regs: R. F. Drayton.—Adjourned for three months. Block VIII, Waimea S.D., 300 acres, regs: L. Stuart. Mr J. Murdoch, who appeared for residents in tins ' , locality, said that this application I was causing a considerable amount of , interest i n Kumara. Situated in the | Tercmakau Valley, miners since 1888 had been using this flat. There would be no objection to Mr Stuart having a grazing license, but he (Mr Murdoch) objected if the miners were going to suffer as a result.

Mr A. Fensome, a miner in that : locality, said that if the application were granted it would prejudice the miners, and would block everything. 1 Mr Murdoch said that if it were I granted it would be a serious blow * to mining at Kumara. The application was adjourned for 1 one month. £
