CALL TO EMPIRE
POE.M BV KTPLIN’G. APPLIED TO CRISIS. A poem written by Kipling 30 years ago was quoted by Lieut' liaiP-C'oluiiel 'R. V. K. ApplTu, M.P.. at n birthday relohra'tion meeting of the Kipling Society ill London, with application in the present wold crisis. •'We all know the crisis we have ;u face in the New !J at,' said Colonel Applin, ■' I,ini no one has Kipling's courage to say so. If only we had a Kipling who was also Prime M blister, what a message he would give. Thirty years ago he wrote: ‘lt, was our fault and our very great fault and now we must turn it to use. ‘\Ve have I’orly million reasons for failing bill not a single excuse. ‘So the more we work and the less we talk the belter results we shall get. ‘We have had an Imperial lesson, and it may make us an Empire yet.” The society’-, good wishes were sent by telegram to the poet.
