I A meeting of All Saints Ladies Guild will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2.45 o’clock at All Saints Hall.—Advt. The case against Arthur Delator Johnson, until recently employed as a railway porter at Greymouth, was called yesterday at Greymouth having been adjourned from Monday for the report of the Probation Officer (SeniorSergeant Boach). Johnson had pleaded guilty to the theft at Greymouth, on or about January 7, of three films, and one razor strop, valued at 9s, the property of John Nicholson Smith; also, on or about January 23, of one watch-guard and gold medal, and a pair of tennis shoes, of the total value of £6, the property of Arthur Rotting. The SAT. said that the Probation Officer had reported favourably. Accused would therefore lie admitted to probation, for two years ill- T. F. A fierce challenge by a bull as to the freedom of a country road in the dara was the experience of a Dunedin resident who was driving a car homeward one night last week, lhe clash occurred between Evansdale and \\ aitati. Ihe motorist, who had three friends with him in the car. suddenly saw a strange object ahead. It Iliad, be thought, the figure of a monster dog, its eyes glaring. Deeming it wise to reconnoitre, he brought the car to a standstill, and it was immediately rushed by a hull, the impact lcaiing deep marks on the radiator and bonnet. For a moment the driver thought it would he a simple matter to give the beast the slip, but evey time lie started it made another rush, and the position resolved itself into manoeuvring, with repeated forward and backward movements of the car and check actions by the bull, until, catching a chance, the motorist used the accelerator to escape from a predicament which would have been ridiculous but that it involved danger.

Car-owners in Christchurch are becoming alarmed over the increasing number of motor-car conversions and the daring methods of the thieves. Two more thefts of ears at the week-end bring the total stolen for the eight-day period to ten. On three nights of the eight, two ears were stiffen. • lwo of the cars wore found burnt, and two others have been removed in more daring circumstances than is usually the case.
