TIIF DOIT AND THE VOTE. Ernest Benn, in a letter 'to tic “Times,” points out that many ol the uiicmrploved who draw the dole must have supported the National Government. Ho writes :—“An unbiased study of the figures must. I think, bring us to the c.OiK'k'sioii that these millions of out-of-works, the majority ol whom d, cline all offers to demonstrate, are convinced that their pliant is in no small measure due to political help, and they have therefore thrown the r weight against the politicians who claim to represent them. We are aecustoim <! as a nation to the spectacle ol patriotic sacrifice, but it has remained until now for that wonderful quality to show itself in. a new and exalted form. No ribbons* no credit, no public honour, awaited 'the man who on Tirsday. with the dole in his pocket, used the secret ballot to vote for its mliictm.i) ami eventual abolition. But as I read the figures there are probably a million of such heroes in our midst to-day. '
