CHANGES DURING QUARTER. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association WELLINGTON, January 8. The banking returns for the December quarter reveal the following changes, as compared with the figures of a year ago:— £ DECREASES. Government deposit® 663,505 Free deposits ... 2,452,401 Notes in circulation 206,481 Advances 2,896,986 Discounts 468,981 INCREASES. Fixed deposits 1,860,038 Coin and Bullion 520,073 The three classes of deposits compare as under, the last December quarter’s ones being given in parenthesis:, Government deposits £1,195,845 (£1,859,40); free deposits £16,145,438 (£18,597,839); fixed deposits £34,635,595 (£32,775,557); total £51,976,878 (£53,232,803), Advances total £50,317,688, as compared with £53,214,074 for the last December quarter. The Discounts totalled £699,093, compared with £1,'168,074. The excess of advances over deposits is £235,748, as compared with £3,009,352 last year, The total note circulation is £5,926,902, and the total of coin and bullion is £6,872,637.
