The Marquis of Lothian, during the debate on the Finance Bill in the House of Lords, predicted that the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr P. Snowden, would next year be faced with a situation the most serious in living memory, and it was a question, he said, what measures the Government should take. They were bound to be far-reaching measures, and they might even approach those that have been adopted in Australia.
