NIEMEYER REPORT
LEGISLATION TO BE DEFERRED.

The Niemeyer report is apparently in one of the Government pigeon holes and is likely to stay there until the Finance Minister has disposed of the Budget. In reply to a question the Prime Minister said it was quite impossible to give the report- his attention at this stage. There were far more pressing matters engaging all the available time. Mr Forbes added that he did not contemplate legislation on the technical aspects of banking and exchange this session. The report would be laid on the table later in the session. The country would have an opportunity, of ■discussing it in all its aspects dining the recess, and if legislation were desired it could be dealt with next yen’. Air Forbes was referring to the banking and exchange section of the report. Sir Otto Niemeyer was also asked to comment on the general organisation of the national finances in New Zealand and the methods of the Treasury and Audit. Air Forbes made no reference to this subject but presumably the expert’s views will be revealed m the Financial Statement.
