Mr John Kay, West Coast representative of the Vacuum Oil Company Proprietary, Limited, has retired on superannuation, after a lengthy term of service with the company, 23 yeais of which hr ve been spent on the West Coast. Mr Kay is the proud possessor of a gold watch, which he won for having the highest percentage in his quota of sales. He has been succeeded by Mr R. Clouston, of Nelson.

The Fire Brigade ball in tlie Soldiers’ Hall last evening drew a very large attendance and the gathering proved very enjoyable. The Melody Six Orchestra supplied the music for the evening and were assisted during the supper interval with the Parrvphone and several other extras. Supper was provided by Mrs Preston, and dancing was kept up, till an early hour.
