WANGANUI, May 6. By only 29 votes, the Labour Mayor Mr W. J. Rogers, was defeated by Mr N. G. Armstrong in a record pool. Labour has won three s,eats. . CHRISTCHURCH MAYORALTY. CHRISTCHURCH, May 6. The election to-day for the Christchurch City Mayoralty resulted: — Mr A. G. Sullivan (Labour), 15,733. Mr W. Hayward (Citizen), 14,310. ; Majority 1,423 After the poll, Mr Sullivan said that the result showed what the people of Christchurch thought of the Labour Party and of its fight to prevent the reduction of the wages and salaries of the workers generally. There was great enthusiasm at the declaration of the poll. Mr Hayward also spoke in an interesting manner.

CHRISTCHURCH COUNCIL. CHRISTCHURCH, May 0. The City Council elections in Christchurch are by proportional representation. The first preferences only were counted to-night. The retiring Labour Mayor. Ret-., Archer, tops the poll. He is followed by Mr E. H. Andrews, of the Citizens’ Association.
