RADIO PROGRAMME

This evening, IYA will broadcast a studio concert to be given by the Municipal Band, under the direction of Captain George Buckley. From 2YA at 7.40, under the auspices of the W.E.A., there wijlAbe an interesting dialogue by Mr .1. R. Elliot and Dr I. A. Henning, lecturers ot the Victoria University College. The dialogue is entitled “Two Australians Discuss 'the State of their Country.” 2YA will he relaying the concert to lie given by the Wellington Symphony Orchestra under Mr Leon de Manny, in the Wellington Town Hall. An orchestral programme par excellence will ho presented. Miss Hilda Chudley (contralto) will bo heard in two solos, “The Soldier’s Wife” and “Spring Waters,” both by Rachmaninoff .

This evening’s miscellaneous programme for BYA (also to he broadcast by 4YA) will contain much variety. Popular songs will bo sung by Mrs C. E. McDowall (soprano), Miss Kathleen Bond (contralto), Mr David McGill (tenor) and Mr Leslie Stewart (baritone). Miss Edna Jarden, who will contribute piano improvisations, is a very accomplished musician. Banjo |i 11 solos by Mr Arthur Hodgson and popular airs played on the mouth organ by Mr .17 Wood ham are also on the programme. Two humorous numbers will be given by Mr Harold Shaw and there will be two c°rneb solos by Mr R. H. Ohlsou. MONDAY, MAY 4TH. A musical treat is in store for 2YA listeners this evening. Mrs Am.v Woodword (soprano) and Mrs Wiltrd Andrews (contralto), two of the leading vocalists of Wellington, will give a reeifal of solos and duets. The Orchesirinn will play Gounod’s “Prison Scene” and some “Gipsy Songs bj Brahms, as well as the overture to “Norma” and the selection “Muniage of Figaro.” A duet for two pianos will be played by Misses Molly Withers and Molly Cook, with orchestral accompaniment.

The Woolstou Band (under Conductor R. J. Estall) and assisting artists will provide 3YA’s programme. The baud items will be varied and will oe U p to this splendid combination’s usual high standard. Mr R. H. Ohlson, Comcast, will play the “Rainstorm Polka,” to band accompaniment. The vocalists for the evening will lie the Valencia Quartet (Miss Lucy Full wood, uiss Jean Johnson, Mr T. C. Rodgers and Air E. J. Johnson,) singing solos and concerted numbers. 3YA will be on the air to-morrow morning to broadcast the Capping Day festivities of the Canterbury University Students.

Mr Arthur Macdonald, one of New Zealand’s leading baritones, will give a recital from 4YA. Also contributing to the vocal programme will be the Majors. Two contralto solos will be sung bv Miss G. Burt. There will be humorous items by Palmer and Mr Max Scherek, respectively. Silent day at IYA
