WHALE’S VISIT

TO SYDNEY HARBOUR. (Australian Press Association.) ; SYDNEY, Aug. 12. An unusual, and in sortie-respect an unwelcome visitor to Sydney Harbour to-day was a forty feet humpback whale, which careered from one side to the other, and eveii disported itself under the new bridge, where it spouted water to the great delight of the bridge builders. Half a boxen speed launches followed it, and attempts were made by fishermen to harpoon it, and also to shoot it, but without avail. One launch got so close ,ta the. monster that the boat was- damaged and the occupants were thrown off their feet. Zoological officials on the harbour front were greatly interested in the pursuit of the whale. They had visions of financial interest in its capture, alive or dead. Kventuallv, after two hours of excitement .the whale disappeared. The ferry boat travellers then lost their nervousness.
