FALSE MARRIAGE DECLARATION

GISBORNE, June 6.
Sentencing a lad of seventeen to ono year’s probation for a false marriage declaration, Mr Justice Ostler in the Supreme Court said: “Very likely your motive was a good one and that you wanted to take the girl out of an unpleasant situation. I shall take that into consideration not in your interests but in the interests of the girl. I shall suppress your name. She is an innocent party and I do not want any stain attached to her.” SUPREME COURT SENTENCES CHRISTCHURCH. June G. On 30 charges of obtaining goods and money by false pretences. William Thomas 37, described as a printer, was sentenced by Judge Adams to three years’ reformative detention. The Crown said Thomas was undoubtedly a bad criminal. He had served a sentence in Australia. Jn a statement, the prisoner complained bitterly of the facility with which cheque books could be secured. Clifford Soxman, aged 20. for breaking. entering and theft received two years’ reformative treatment'.
