BERLIN, June 4
“Shadows over England” is the heading of an outspoken article by ihe London c'drrfeponden't ot “Tne Berliner Tageblatt,” who declares:— Britain’s premier ’ position in the world has gone! The wealthy few must not hide the fact that the nnisseso of the people are worse off than the masses of th'a French people.
In supporting his contention that IKngland is a backward country, the correspondent asserts that acetylene gas is being used for lighting the streets and the houses at one hour s distance from London, while no fewer than fifty children are taught and fed in a house built for one family only.” He adds’:" “The country’s canal system is- down and out. Servants in England ale paid twice as much, and they ile only half as much work, as the German servants. The middleman systeflv is excessive, and agriculture is unorganised.
