ON MT. EGMONT
THE INJURED CLUMBER, (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) NEW PLY-MOUTH, June 4. A recent heavy fall of snow on the mountain had frozen with the cold wejathqr, and -the surface was like glass, and in negotiating a narrow ledge of rock skirting “The Priest’s Fingers,” Carman slipped and slithered 500 feet- into the gorge over ice and occasional jagged rocks. Tie was held up by a jutting rock, and he lay unconscious lor some time. Ihe remainder of the party, looking down, saw him partially recover as he lay against the rock. A slight movement would have sent him sliding another 600 feet. AVit-h great difficulty the party descended, and gave Carman first aid. and then they commenced an extremously arduous journey to Dawson Falls. Carman was in a had way. and he had to he carried o\ci rocks and along a boulder strewn creek bed. The small party laboured on till darkness set in, and soon their two electric torches became exhausted. At various stages the rescuers were reinforced, till at hist Dawson Falls House was reached. The journey had taken from 3.30 till 8.30 and the resellers were exhausted. I),-. Doris Gordon had tramped over the mountain Ifroin Stratlnrd House Dawson Fall to render medical attention. Carman is suffering from a broken breast-bone and a broken collar-bone. Both lie and frving are progressing favourably.
