The weather is gloomy and overcast. The wicket seemed dead. Haig won the toss from Richardson, Middlesex- batting. Only a handful were present owing to the Derby counterattraction.

Middlesex batsmen made a- sorry showing against Grimmett and Hornibrook on a lifeless wicket. The opening pair put on forty-eight but the wickets then fell in rapid succession. Hornibrook 'bowled very well keeping an excellent length. Grimmett also worried' the batsmen incessantly. Hendren batted for an hour, giving.a deplorable display. The County's batting was the worst so- lar against the Australians.

The visitors bad only scored thiiteen in half an hour when Ponsiord went out leg belore for the fourth time in the course of the torn, Jackson was unusually restrained and Bradman who scored steadily monopolised the run getting. He had made thirty-six of a total of foitjeight when he was howled. Kippax was attractive, but Jackson made only fourteen in eighty-two minutes. He went out when attempting a bit.
