GIRL’S THROAT CUT
MAN GIVES HIMSELF UP

WANGANUI, May 9
At about 3.30 p.m. to-day, the 21year old daughter of Mrs 0. Cromarty, of No. 6 Ridgeway Street, (staggered down a flight .of 18 stairs -With a gaping wound in her throat. . The girl maefe an effort to speak, fbut she tumbled face down on the ■kitchen floor.
( Down the stairs behind the girl came a man, who was residing in the same house. He left by the front (jpor, and snatching a bicycle, he rode, away as fast as he could, k. The distracted yffiother.-rushed -to the gate way crying: “He’s after my bairn He’s after my bairn! Won’t anvone helo mo?”
Just on three hours later, the man, Herbert Frederick Alanlev, aged 38, walked into the Wanganui Central Police Station, and said: “I’m the man you’re looking for.” He was taken into custody and was charged with the murder of Gladys 'Cromarty. .
