AVELLINGTON, March 3.

The second day’s play in the deciding match for the Plunket Shi-eld. today was full of fluctuations, which kept the interest of four thousand spectators keyed up to a high, pitch. The first life light came into the very first over of the day, when a rising ball from Henderson rapped Hunt so severely that he could not continue, and Auckland’s innings was thus closed with the addition of a no-hall by Henderson to the team’s overnight total of 432.

The opening of Wellington’s innings was highly sensational, as Mathcson bowled with such devil that lie nad Foley and Lowry both caught behind the sticks by the time seven runs were on the slate. Anthony supported Mathcson so ably that Wellington batsmen came and went in rapid succession. Six wickets were down for 41 runs, but a solid century by McLeod and a fighting innings by Galliehan, James and Massey enabled the home team to eventually total 283 runs.

Auckland in the second innings have lost no wickets for 34. They opened tlreir 4?cond innings with 150 of a lead. The day was fine, but overcast, with a light northerly. The scores are as follows:

The cricket match Tasmania against Australia commenced to-day. The Tasmanians hatted first. The wicket was easy.

Atkinson played attractive cricket and scored 50 runs in 84 minutes, tie hit six tours.
