200 SHEEP LOST

OHAKUNH, February 16
A tram of 27 trucks of sheep left Raetilii at 12.30 a.m,, and when between Rochfort and Ohakune, it was found that the engine was unable to draw the load.. The train was divided the engine taking about 15, trucks on to Ohakune junction, leaving the guard in charge of the remainder. The guard put on the brakes, and went along the line, placing detonators to warn tlie engine driver, when returning of his approach to the trucks, ’fhe trucks, however, started off, and gathering speed, they travelled about seven miles round several curves, over bridges, and up inclines and a gradient of one in fifty and crashed into a stop block at the terminus of the line at the end of the Raetihi yard. A van and about nine loaded trucks went over n bank. The trucks were smashed and the van was damaged buried in a swamp up to the floor About 200 sheep Were killed, and others were injured. The sheep were bought at Freeman and -Taoksbn’s ewe fair on Thursday. No one wns hurt.
