Apologies for absence were made for the Mayor, Messrs King, Armstrong, Elcock and Hecnan.

From the Tauranga Tobacco and Citrus Coy., Ltd., Tauranga, forwarding newspaper report of Company’s development of land.—Received.

From the Under-Secretarv, Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington, advising that the Right Hon. Viscount Craigavon ai id Viscountess Craigavon would reach Hokitika, on route to Franz Josef Glacier on Saturday, the 4th January.—Received. From the Medical Officer of Health, Christchurch, and also from various Boroughs, extending Season’s Greetings to Council.—Received. From the New Zealand Refrigerating Coy., advising that the following quantities of meat were delivered into Hokitika during the month of November, 1929, viz. 79 sheep, 8 lambs. —Received.

From Grey County Council, forwarding cheque for £2B 8s 2d, being balance of heavy traffic fees to the 18th December, 1929.—Received. I bog to report tlm following work was carried out during the month:--Sections of Hall, Stafford, and Sewell Streets footpaths were gravelled, and parts of Tailored, Hamilton Sewell, Fitzherbert, Park Streets, and Gibson’s Quay were chipped ant cleaned. Park Street drain between Urmia and Hall Streets was cleaned out and Tailored Street drain between , alford and Hampden Street cleamv . Several patches of l)laokbcm«_ were cut in Boa,ley, Hampden, and Jollie Streets. . ~ A crossing was put m at Mr AT-(h-el’s in Hall Street. The water service was renewed < p Sweeney’s in Fitzherhert Street. Four and a half chains of six inch iron pipes were laid at the Kan.ou Forks, connecting on to the Penstock of the Electric Power Co., thus maintaining a steady flow into the reservoir. Several pipes require renewing abou'jc town, being beyond relpam, which Will he done as soon as come to ’hand. The average depth of water in the reservoir for month was 7 feet 3 inches. This will take the drainage coming down from the North Belt and prevent the flooding of the low part about Cameron’s paddock.—Rccei veil. Complaints were received of the quality of the screened gravel being supplied and it was resolved to draw the attention of the contractor tlicicto. It was resolved, to defer action in regard to Sewell Street drain. From Manager of Abattoirs reporting there were slaughtered during December: —12 cows, 26 heifers, 55 bullocks, 207 sheep, 198 lambs, 13 pigs, 8 calves. Fees for period £72 4s Od; (for same month last year £73 18s 6d).—Received. Formal resolutions were passed in regard to changing the terms of two reserves, i" accordance with a former decision of the Council publicly notified.

Mr Evans’ notice of motion was held over until the next meeting. Mr Hein/, moved that the Foreman report on the condition of the water supply pipes in the town. Seconded by Dir Duff and carried. The Council rose at 8.20 p.m.
