HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13th. The Council held its monthly meeting at 7.30 p.m. 'Present; Messrs D. J. Evans (in the Chair), T. AV. Duff, E. W. Keenan, A. R. Elcock, A. C. Armstrong, J. King, and G. Heinz. Apologies were made for the Mayor, Dr Teicludmaiiii and Mr Turner. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IXAVARD CORRESPONDENCE. From International Federation of Buildings and Public AA'orks, London, re sth International Congress in Alay, 1930.—Received.

From Clerk of Award, AA r ellington, notification of Industrial Dispute Hearing affecting Carpenters’ and Joiners’ Industrial Association. —Received.

From New Zealand Refrigerating Coy., advising the following quantities of meat were delivered into Hokitika during the month of October, 3929, viz.: 53 sheep, and 8 1 a mbs.—Recei veil. From Sanitary Inspector, Greymouth, monthly report of sanitary inspections and infectious diseases. Received. From Leather Research Association, re flaying of hides.—Received; referred to Abattoir Manager to report. From British Empire Cancer Campaign Society. Christchurch, outlining objects of the Society and asking for support.—Received. From Treasurer reporting receipts £328 IGs 2d. payments £46G 19s 7d. credit balance £271 Is Sil.—Received. Accounts amounting to £BO4 8s lOd were passed for payment. From ALinapov. Abattoirs, reporting duriiicr November there wore slaughtered:- —7 cows, lfi heifers, <5 bullocks. 183 sheen, 23 In ml.* o . 20 nigs. G calves. Fees for period £SB 17s (for same period last year £GS 17s fid). —Received. FOREMAN’S REPORT. T have the honour to report that, the following work was carried out during the month : The runntv grader was used oil several of the streets, grading and widening, three and a half days were occupied and the spoil was carted into Sale Street drain and Weld Street drain, which was recently piped. The growth on Racecourse was cut, j and t.lie hill graded. Hall Street footpath between Hampden and Stafford Streets was cleaned and gravel- - led with screen gravel, sections of

Stafford, Revell, Beach and Wharf Streets wore chipped and cleaned. The drain at Air Neville’s in Hall Street was finished connecting with the concrete drain ; Jollie Street drain on both sides of Hampden Street was cleaned out and growth cut. AA’ater connections were put in at Mr Holley’s in Hampden Street, Mr McGeorge’s, in Hampden Street, Mr Harvey’s in Sale Street, and Dr Teiphelmann’s in Hampden Street; a, water service was renewed on the Hau Hau hill.

Crossings were put in at Miss McKinnon’s in Sale Street, and at the Bank of New South AValos in Camp Street, and Air Ferguson’s in Weld (Street.

Repairs were also carried out at the Abattoirs, concreting damaged parts of the floor. A large number of leaks were attended to in various parts of the town. The average water in reservoir for the month was 3ft 3in. —Received. FORK ALAN'S SPECIAL REPORT. KANIERT LAKE AA’ATER SUPPLY. I hog to report on the work being done at the Lake. During the month the weather has been very had raining almost continually, therefore the laying of the pipes has been very slow, owing to the water running in the trench, which makes it Impossible to use cement, consequently most of the time was taken up carrying pipes and collars along the route. AA’e have finished No. 2 section of twenty-four chains and half-way along No. 3 section which is thirty-three chains, so with a little fine weather, these two sections will he completed. No. 4 section of twenty-eight chains will be better to lay as the line is straight; this when laid will connect with the present pipe line. Wells Bros, have almost completed their contract on the town end, which only leaves about six chains to complete at the Lake above the Hatchery.—Received. Afr Evans moved that steps he taken to alter the purpose of endowment reserve to enable the Council to gi'i a substantial lease if desired—Seconded by Mr Elcock and cariied. GENERAL. Mr Heenan referred to the stationary motor cars in Revell Street on Saturday nights. It was resolved that the Inspector take any required action. It was also resolved to repeat action of last year to stop traffic in Revell Street on ’Xmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Arrangements for the completing of the cleaning up of the streets were made. The Chairman conveyed to members and staff the compliments of the season, expressing the hope Amt the coming year would be a successful one. The good wishes were endorsed b> members and the Town Clerk. The Council rose at 8.20 p.m.
