There was a poignant tragedy at the Viewpoint Colliery in Lanarkshire, when two men were buried by a fall of one hundred tons from the root. The rescuers were encouraged by hearing a faint voice, and they reached the spot and saved one of the men, who was injured. The other man was in the arms of a rescuer and was being given a drink of water, when ho saw another fall coming. 'Then lie said, “Good-bye boys !” and he was struck on the head .and killed.
