A FATALITY
GEORGE TAINUI DROWNED,
A drowning fatality occurred in the Arahura river last evening about 8 o’clock, the victim being George Henry. Tainui, a Maori, a resident of Arahura Pali. It appears that the deceased with a party of Maoris was setting a net for mullet in -the Arahura river, below the former old traffic bridge. He had swum across the river three or four times, but the last time when abopt 20 feet from the bank he got into difficulties and sank in deep water. Everv possible efFort was made by his brothers Tuhuru and Isaiah, but they were unsuccessful. The Police were notified aboijt 8.30 n.m. and Sergt. King and Constable Dougherty went out at once and commenced dragging operations. These were continued until 11 p.m. without success. This morning the body was recovered hv Tuhuru' Tainui and Muir at the spot where the deceased disappeared there being about 10 feet of water there. ’Hie remains were taken to the ’■ *ideuce of Mrs Tainui, mother of deoeas- /J od, at the Arahura Pah. Deceased., was a widower, was 40 years of age, " and leaves two children.
