(Australian Press Association)
BRISBANE, Dec. 2,
The third day 'of. the cricket; match Queensland vieirsus the M.C.C. team proved an exciting one. With six wickets down for 165 in the second innings, the visitors resumed batting and there was a partnership between the not-out men, 'Worthington and Le'gge,. which .■ troubled the. State bowler, adding hi, runs. Then Allom made another stand "with the former, and kept Queensland fielding for half an hour after luncheon. The innings realised 259 runs.
„ When O’Connor and Levy went to the wickets, Queensland required to get one hundred and eighty-three runs to win, in 180 minutes. The start was disastrous, O’Connor going at five, and Levy going at 13. Gough, however, batted vigorously in a solid partnership with Rowe. Both were lucky in being dropped several times.
The M. 0.0. keeper, Benson, was .struck on the face by a ball from Nick oils, and he retired, Duleepsinhji keeping wickets. With 100 up, Gough and Rowe hit out, playing bright cricket. Th".:e was an exciting finish, with thirty minutes to play and thirty runs wanted. The crowd were cheering every run. There was a great demonstration when Gough passed his century, which is the highest score ! made for the State of ’ Queensland ag- 1 'list an English team.
